Ruth Cross is an arts activist. She founded the socially engaged, site specific collective Cross Collaborations in 2009. Cross Collaborations is an ever evolving collective of experimenters making diverse and adventurous, socially engaged and site specific projects, aiming to playfully provoke. By acknowledging the complexities of our times, using landscapes and communities, we find beauty and hope in surprising places. We write text in the wilds of Shetland, and collaborate with scientists and artists to make immersive one-on-one performance in the basements of dilapidated Cornish theatres. We tour Europe with an antique bureau, curiously collecting letters to the future. We make work that makes our audiences hair stand up on end with excitement. We begin difficult conversations with the public and allow the unexpected to emerge. We ask what is our societal responsibility, what are we living for, when do we feel most alive?
We see the every day as art in action.
